Use Enhanced Auto-Tiering for More Cost-Efficient and Faster Storage

Managing large volumes of data while balancing performance and cost is a challenge across industries. To address this, EonStor GS* now features upgraded automated storage tiering that places frequently accessed data on SSDs—30% faster than before—and moves less-used data to cost-effective HDDs. Ideal for workloads with large volumes of data and consistent access patterns, this solution ensures optimal resource utilization by boosting performance where it matters and keeping overall storage costs in check.

New Auto-Tiering in Action*

File Sharing: During active projects, files are stored on the SSD tier to accelerate access, boosting enterprise file sharing read performance by up to 350%. Once projects are completed, files are moved to the HDD tier for cost-effective storage.

Media & Entertainment: Frequently accessed video files used for rendering, VFX, and streaming are stored on the high-speed SSD tier, increasing performance by up to 600% for rendering and VFX, and up to 100% for streaming workloads. Less frequently accessed media files are migrated to the HDD tier.

Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS): During diagnosis and treatment, newly generated and frequently accessed medical images are placed on the high-speed SSD tier, improving read performance for imaging data by up to 400%. As access frequency declines, images are moved to the HDD tier for archiving.

Automated Optical Inspection (AOI): In manufacturing environments, real-time or recently captured inspection videos are stored on the SSD tier to enable smooth playback and analysis. After inspection is completed, videos are transferred to the HDD tier for long-term retention.

* Performance testing was conducted on the EonStor GS 3040 G3 using two configurations: 28 HDDs + 12 SSDs with auto-tiering vs. 40 HDDs without SSDs.
